Vincent Landeros is a Mexican-American writer born and raised in Visalia, California. He is an undergraduate creative writing major at Fresno State. Vincent’s primary work consists of fictional character studies exploring ideas of self. Vincent works to further navigate themes such as solitude, independence, and self-acceptance. After Vincent acquires his bachelor’s degree, he plans to pursue a career in publishing, working as an editor.
Emily Peacock is a poet and senior at Fresno State. She currently interns for the Fresno Poets Archive Project and tutors students in the Learning Center. In the future, Emily hopes to make creative writing more accessible to teenagers who lack art programs in their public schools. In addition to her literary pursuits, she enjoys exploring new local restaurants and binge-watching old seasons of "Survivor." After graduation, Emily plans to pursue an MFA in poetry to further hone her craft.
Dirk Tharpe is a writer majoring in English literature at Fresno State who plans on going into the university’s teaching credential program. He hopes to become a high school English teacher and will continue with his writing career on the side. He is still finding his voice as a writer and is writing in many different genres and mediums. So far, Dirk has completed several flash fiction stories, along with traditional short stories and two novellas. In an ideal world, his future published work would grant him an honorary degree at a university.
Stella Velez is a writer from the tiny town of Auberry, California. She is a creative writing major at Fresno State, with a minor in anthropology. On good days, Stella can be found outside looking at mushrooms in the garden or inside sitting way too close to the wood-burning stove. And on the best days, she likes to write about nature, queerness, and the wonderful complexities of being a person. She wants to pursue a master's degree, but in the meantime there's a whole world to see.
Beth Contreras (they/them/theirs) is a nonbinary, LGBTQ+, Chicanx writer born and raised in Visalia, California. For them, writing is a form of expression, resilience, and survival that allows them to keep moving forward. They'll earn their undergraduate degrees in English literature and sociology this spring, and plan to pursue a master's degree in library science and a law degree. Poetry is a permanent passion of theirs, and they hope to someday become a librarian and lawyer to legally represent and provide informational resources to community members in the San Joaquín Valley.
Vivian Aguirre is a Fresno State student who dares to be a poet on days when life feels most beautiful. Cloying summer days, the smell of leather, the glamour of Prince, the beauty of Adonis, and the blend of red and white roses are what inspire their poetry. Vivian intends to write poetry that inspires others to remember and appreciate the little things in life. Vivian is part of the editorial board for the journal Spectrum, which encourages youth from across Central California to write. Vivian aspires to earn an MFA in the future, but for now you can find them watching Cowboy Bebop and drinking an insane amount of coffee before work.
All participants are welcome; if you need special accommodations please email jbeavers@csufresno.edu or call 559.278.1569.
