Death and the Maiden

Death and the Maiden

by Ariel Dorfman, directed by Dr. Thomas Whit-Ellis

The play deals with the aftermath of an unlawful detention and torture of a young woman during the reign of a repressive and dictatorial South American Regime. The play takes a dramatic turn when the victim’s husband brings home a guest after he helps the husband with his disabled car. Tensions rise when the wife identifies the house guest by his voice as her torturer and the husband refuses to accept her word, assuming it’s the result of her trauma. She then confronts the perpetrator at gunpoint and threatens to kill him for his crimes.

The play features Dr. Paula Sanmartín (professor, MCLL), James Hume (FSU Theatre Alum, recently seen in American Son) and Jeret Carpenter (graduating theatre senior).

Admission is free.
